School calendar change in April

ROCK HALL — The Kent County Board of Education has approved converting Tuesday, April 2 from a staff professional development day to a synchronous learning day for students.

The Kent County Public Schools 2023-24 calendar included three inclement weather days. However, four inclement weather days have been used this winter.

Rather than extending the school year, the missed day is being added into the calendar by making April 2 a synchronous learning day.

On synchronous days, students complete classwork from home with live online instruction from teachers via school-issued Chromebooks.

April 2 was previously shown on the 2023-24 school calendar as the last day of spring for students and a professional development day for staff.

The Board of Education approved the calendar modification at the recommendation of Superintendent Dr. Karen Couch during a meeting held Monday, Feb. 12.

The updated calendar is available for download below.
