The Elementary Instructional Program in Kent County Public Schools is designed to accelerate achievement for all students. Schools utilize meaningful and engaging techniques to implement the Maryland State Curriculum (www.mdk12.org).

The comprehensive instructional program of Kent County Public Schools is based on the five essential components of good reading instruction as outlined by the Science of Reading Research: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension (www.ed.gov).

Pacing guide documents and formative assessments are created and refined by teachers, coaches and supervisors. Students improve their composing skills with regular assignments in full-scale writing of personal narratives, research papers, essays, and poems.
